as part of the Clinical Outcome Review Programme into Medical & Surgical care, as part of the current contract awarded in 2015

  • Does the patient’s ICD10 code for Pulmonary Embolism need to be in the primary position?
    • No – this can be in any position
  • Which hospitals should be taking part in this study?
    • All hospitals in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and public hospitals in the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey that treat patients with pulmonary embolism. Community and mental health hospitals will not be submitting any data for this study.
  • Are patients who are treated as a day case included in this study?
    • Yes – Both day cases and inpatients are included in this study.
  • Are in patients that develop PE in hospital included?
    • Yes - Inpatients that develop a PE in hospital and patients that present to hospital with a PE are included.
  • What is the study period for this study?
    • 1st July 2017 – 31st August 2017 inclusive
  • If the patient has been admitted/attends multiple times during the study period, should each admission be recorded in the patient identifier spreadsheet?
    • Yes - please record each admission/attendance on a separate line
  • Some of our patients do not have NHS numbers, what should we do?
    • It is fine to leave out the NHS number where this is not available.
